Vision Screening

PineyWoods Pediatrics offers early vision screening that can detect most vision disorders in children as young as five months. “The earlier you can diagnose a vision disorder, the better it can be treated,” said Dr. Amy Huggins. “With our Plusoptix Vision Screening device, we can detect the most prevalent refractive errors in children as early as possible. It saves a lot of time and is a very efficient way to get the information we need to better treat our youngest patients.” The vision screening device uses a child-friendly design that incorporates an on-screen smiley face and an ear-catching warble sound to attract children’s attention and put them at ease. Numerous peer-reviewed clinical studies show that the device consistently delivers accurate measurement values, making it possible to detect childhood vision disorders that may lead to the development of amblyopia (lazy eye), including hyperopia (farsightedness), myopia (nearsightedness), astigmatism (blurred vision), anisometropia (unequal refractive power), anisocoria (unequal pupil size) and strabismus (eye misalignment). “Good vision is vital to a child’s development,” Dr. Huggins said. “If a child’s eyes can’t send clear images to the brain, their vision can become limited in ways that can’t be corrected later. If we detect these problems early, we’re far more likely to be able to treat them effectively.”

We feel strongly that all children and young adults should receive all of the recommended vaccines according to the schedule published by the Centers for Disease Control and the American Academy of Pediatrics. Sick Visits

The PineyWoods Pediatrics, P.A. Care Team will perform a complete exam of your child, so please feel free to express any concerns that you have. Before you arrive for your visit, it helps to prepare a few questions to maximize your visit time. When your child is sick, some answers you should know before you leave the office include: - your child's diagnosis; - when your child should start to get better and what the plan would be if he or she isn't feeling better (should you just call or return for a recheck); - signs or symptoms that might indicate that your child is getting worse; - when you should return for a follow-up appointment (this is especially important for more chronic conditions like asthma and allergies); - how long you should take any prescribed medications and their side effects; - when your child will no longer be contagious and can return to daycare or school. If you are not clear on something, please be sure to speak up. We are happy to explain your child’s health and wellness again so that there are no misunderstandings.
